This week on Billboard’s Social 50
chart, Nicki Minaj ** bounds back
into the top 10, Skrillex ** hits a
new high and One Direction
continue its American takeover.
After a brief sojourn from the top
10 last week, Nicki Minaj is back
in the upper tier at No. 4 (up 13
slots) following a 6.1% increase
in overall followers over the
previous week. The flurry of social
activity comes as the diva reigns
in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot
100 singles chart with two
different tracks: “Starships” (up to
No. 6 from No. 9) and “Turn Me
On” (with David Guetta, down one
slot to No. 7).
The Social 50 chart ranks the
most popular artists on YouTube,
Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace,
using a formula that blends
weekly additions of friends/fans/
followers along with weekly artist
page views and weekly song
plays.
Minaj experiences a surge of
170,000 “likes” on Facebook, a
55% increase over her fan
acquisition rate from the previous
week. Blogs were in a tizzy last
week courtesy of pictures of the
bikini-clad artist during a video
shoot for “Starships.”
After 36 weeks on the chart,
Skrillex finally cracks the top 10,
rising seven spots to No. 9. The
electronic artist was one of the
most buzzed about acts who
played South by Southwest last
week, receiving over 107,000
Facebook “likes” (up 42%
compared to the week previous).
UK pop group One Direction
continues their march up the
Social 50, moving from No. 9 to
No. 5 (a new high) after the
release of their debut album “Up
All Night” on March 13. The act
made history on the Billboard 200
albums chart as the first UK group
to bow at No. 1 with a debut
album. “Up All Night” entered atop
the list with 176,000 copies sold,
according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The media frenzy surrounding
One Direction, including a
performance on NBC’s “Today”
show, has translated into a storm
of social buzz and activity. During
the charting week the group
experienced a 9% increase in
overall online fan acquisition from
the previous week, mostly
resulting from a 164,000 gain in
Twitter followers (up 29%).
The group understands how to
reach fans, too. One Direction’s
Vevo channel features behind-
the-scenes and touring-related
content — in addition to
traditional music video clips. A
video of the act greeting fans
gathered in Natick Mall in Boston
has received over 150,000 views
since debuting March 20,
contributing to an 16% increase
in video views over the previous
week.
Elsewhere on the chart, Usher
(moving 37-31) experiences
gains as well, as this week
captured the tail-end of the surge
of online activity surrounding the
release of the video for his new
single “Climax.” The video
debuted on March 8 and has
since received over 4 million
views, contributing in part to his
total of 8,485,000 video views
during the week (up 18.5%).
Back in the top 10: Adele
continues to watch the Social 50
throne, resting comfortably at No.
1 as Lady Gaga jumps from No. 4
to No. 2. Gaga bumps Justin
Bieber down four slots to No. 6
while Rihanna remains at the No.
3 spot. Eminem falls from No. 6 to
No. 7 and Chris Brown slips from
No. 5 to No. 10 as online activity
generated by his newest single
“Turn Up The Music” begins to
taper off. Finally, LMFAO re-enters
the top 10 at No. 8 (up six rungs)
after a busy week touring.

Nicki Minaj-Chris Brown Duet,’Right By My Side,’ Hits the Web:Listen
After unveiling the track list to
Nicki Minaj **’s “Pink Friday:
Roman Reloaded” last week, one
of the disc’s most anticipated
collaborations, “Right By My Side”
featuring Chris Brown **, has hit
the web.
The uptempo ballad features
Minaj primarily operating in
“singing” mode, with a theme
similar to Brown’s hit
collaboration with Jordin Sparks
**, “No Air.” Minaj chants in the
chorus, “I’m not living life/ If
you’re not right by my side,”
while she raps in the bridge, “Man
the shit that we be fighting over
irrelevant/But I don’t remember
though, I probably hellla bent.”
Meanwhile, Brown serves as a
reliable crooner, baring his
loneliness riding the sparkling
beat.

Nicki Minaj loves her fans!
Nicki Minaj turned a lot of heads and also caused a lot of people to scratch their heads with her over-the-top performance at the GRAMMY Awards two weeks ago. While many were confused and disliked the performance, her dedicated fans stood by her. The rapper told us she has a deep relationship with her “Barbz”. Nicki Minaj’s new album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, will arrive in April.
Pitbull, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj Rock NBA All-Star Game
Pitbull called on some super-friends while Nicki Minaj unveiled a new hit at the NBA All-Star Game, which took place in Orlando on Sunday night (Feb. 26). Pit brought out Ne-Yo, Nayer and unannounced performer Chris Brown during the halftime show, while the female rap star played her latest Hot 100 hit, “Starships,” during the player introductions.
After running through a medley of songs like “Krazy” and “Rain Over Me,” an all-black-clad Pitbull brought out “International Love” collaborator Chris Brown, who also presented a truncated version of his latest hit, “Turn Up The Music,” and some spirited dance moves. Soon, Ne-Yo and his fedora appeared on a platform to croon the new hook of “Give Me Everything,” and Nayer was also on hand, because, hey, why not? Before long, Orlando was a block party, and Pitbull, surrounded by sultry backup dancers, was the master of ceremonies.
Before tip-off, Nicki Minaj gave an elaborate performance of her uptempo new hit, “Starships,” which debuted at No. 9 last week on the Hot 100. After introducing the NBA East All-Stars (who lost the defense-free game 152-149 to the Western team), Minaj returned swapped wigs and turned on the sass for her past smash, “Super Bass.”
NBA Jams: 10 Slammin’ Songs For The All-Star Game
In earlier events at NBA All-Star Weekend, J. Cole, Common and Ne-Yo competed in the Celebrity All-Star Game on Friday night, while Flo Rida and Will.i.am performed during the Saturday Night events in Orlando. At the NBA All-Star Pregame Concert on Sunday night, Lil Wayne made a surprise appearance onstage following performances by Gym Class Heroes and J. Cole.
Finally, Mary J. Blige delivered a stirring rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner before the 2012 All-Star Game got underway.
Nicki Minaj Guests on Ester Dean’s ‘Gimme Money’: Listen
The last time Ester Dean and Nicki Minaj teamed up, the result was 2011 mega-hit “Super Bass.”
The pair are at it again on “Gimme Money,” Dean’s latest single. The upbeat R&B track features only a few verses from Minaj, who raps about moving to L.A. and former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway. Instead, it focuses on the raspy vocals of Dean, who contrasts the capitalist chorus with lyrics about finding true love.
Dean, who co-wrote and sang on “Super Bass” and has a number of hits under her belt as a songwriter, previously turned heads with the Chris Brown-featuring 2009 single “Drop It Low.”
Nicki Minaj: GrammysPerformance Was Part of aMovie
Some were confused, others
offended by Nicki Minaj’s over-
the-top performance at the
Grammy Awards on Sunday, but
the singer-rapper doesn’t
understand what all the hubbub
is about.
“I don’t know what is the big
issue?” she asked.
The 29-year-old said her five-
minute live rendition of her songs
“Roman’s Revenge” and “Roman
Holiday,” which included dancing
priests, an exorcism and
levitation, was just a part of a
movie she’s writing.
“You know how people write
plays and movies? That’s what I
did. I wrote that and I gave the
world a tiny little preview of what
was to come. And so I have to
perform it on the set in which it
would be in the movie, right?”
she said.
Minaj made the comments
Wednesday night at an event for
Viva Glam MAC cosmetics, for
which she is an ambassador with
fellow singer Ricky Martin.
Proceeds from the sale of the
special edition MAC products
benefit HIV/AIDS programs
worldwide.
Minaj, who is known for her
outrageous style, walked the
Grammy red carpet in an
oversized red robe with a man
dressed as a pope at her side.
She said her performance, which
featured a film clip, was partly
inspired by the 1973 movie “The
Exorcist.”
Her sophomore album, “Pink
Friday: Roman Reloaded,” will be
released on April 3 and features
Minaj rapping as her male alter
ego, Roman. It’s the follow-up to
her platinum debut, “Pink
Friday,” which was nominated for
three Grammys, though she
walked away with zero trophies.

RedOne Talks Nicki Minaj Collaboration: ‘Amazing, Incredible
Nicki Minaj’s bouncy “Starships” single dropped on Tuesday, but it’s only the first of the rapper’s collaborations with producer RedOne.
“It’s four songs we did,” the in-demand producer told Billboard.com during a rare studio break during Grammy Week, with potentially the full quartet to appear on Minaj’s upcoming “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.”
“The tracks that I’ve worked with on Nicki Minaj are amazing, incredible,” he said. “To be honest, I am so happy and excited for what people are going to think.”
The electronic-influenced track landed in iTunes’ top 10 during its opening day, prompting a flurry of enthusiastic tweets from Minaj’s “Barbz”: “omg I’m actually crying,” @antwone516 tweeted at the rapper. “This is the best valentines day present ever.”
“She’s an incredible artist, very inspiring,” RedOne added. “A character, a beautiful person, it’s all in one.”

Nicki Minaj Offends Catholic League With Grammys Performance
Nicki Minaj’s Grammys onstage exorcism yesterday (Feb. 12), left most people one of three: confused, blown away or offended. The Catholic League issued a statement of the rapstress’ performance that leaves no doubt to which one of those three categories they belong to.
According to the Gothamist, Bill Donahue of the Catholic League expressed his organization’s displeasure: “Perhaps the most vulgar part was the sexual statement that showed a scantily clad female dancer stretching backwards while an altar boy knelt between her legs in prayer.”
Later in the statement, Donahue faulted The Recording Academy for giving Minaj’s performance the green light. “None of this was by accident, and all of it was approved by The Recording Academy, which puts on the Grammys. Whether Minaj is possessed is surely an open question, but what is not in doubt is the irresponsibility of The Recording Academy. Never would they allow an artist to insult Judaism or Islam.”
Minaj’s performance of her single “Roman Holiday” included a pretaped segment of a mock exorcism that began with her singing a manic version of “I Feel Pretty” to her reflection. The live set had dancing monks and priests dancing with and swarming around a horizontal Minaj, which levitated high above the stage.
What did you think of Nicki Minaj’s Grammys performance?
Nicki Minaj Talks Grammy Performance, M.I.A. Super Bowl Stunt & New Single
Nicki Minaj has had a busy month, from performing with Madonna and M.I.A. at the 2012 Super Bowl XLVI halftime to the 54th Annual Grammy Awards yesterday (Feb. 12).
When calling into Ryan Seacrest this morning (Feb. 13), via Rap-Up, Minaj shared details on how her Grammy performance came to be. “I had this vision for Roman [Zolanski], I had this vision for him to be sort of exorcised — or actually he never gets exorcised — but people around him tell him that he’s not good enough because he’s not normal, and he’s not blending in with the average Joe. And so his mother is scared and the people around him are afraid because they’ve never seen anything like him.”
“He [Roman] wanted to show that not only is he amazing and he’s sure of himself and confident, but he’s never gonna change, he’s never gonna be exorcised. Even when they throw the holy water on him, he still rises above. That’s what was portrayed,” Minaj told Seacrest.
Minaj conitnued to share that it was the “most comfortable” she’s ever been on stage. There’s good reason for that confidence too. “Roman Holiday” was so memorable, it also hooked Grammy producers from the first listen.
“The Grammys chose ‘Roman Holiday.’ The producers of the Grammys came to the studio and I played them ‘Roman Holiday,’ and I could not play them another record after they heard that,” Minaj revealed. “They went crazy. I could have chosen to do a no-brainer pop song, but I can’t do it anymore. I have to stay true to what I’m doing.”
The presence of a legend, prior ot the Grammys, helped inspire Nicki in new ways, making her more focused than ever. “Meeting Madonna changed my life. Working with Madonna changed my life. Rehearsing with Madonna for two weeks changed my life,” Minaj professed. “I saw how much Madonna sacrificed and how much she rehearses and rehearses and rehearses and rehearses, and everyone there was like, ‘We got it.’ But she was like, ‘No, I want you to know this choreography in your sleep.’”
“This performance was it and this is the first performance that I’m proud of in my entire career,” Minaj said of her Super Bowl halftime performance, aside Madonna and M.I.A.
Minaj had some words in regards to M.I.A.’s brash hand gesture during the halftime show, feeling at first “disappointment” beause of “respect tor Madonna.”
“I’m a cuckoo lady too, but I would never be able to do it off the strength of Madonna. There are fines that go into these things, and I just thought, ‘Oh my God. I hope they don’t penalize Madonna.’ Madonna knows the artist that M.I.A. is and it was her decision to take the risk with all of us. We were kinda all firecrackers and she took that risk. She’s done some crazy things becoming the icon that she is, so I think that’s why she was able to forgive M.I.A.,” she said. “I love M.I.A. and I don’t want to say anything that is the wrong thing, but me personally, I couldn’t see myself doing it, just for the respect for Madonna,” Minaj admitted. “I wouldn’t want any backlash to come back on Madonna.”
On a more positive note, Minaj also chatted about her new single, “Starships,” off her sophomore album, “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” (April 3). Calling it a “Ryan Secrest-type of record,” Nicki felt assured that the track will connect with her fans. “I know people are gonna love it. It feels right. It just feels good. It makes people feel happy and that’s all I want,” Nicki said.
Seacrest will debut “Starships” tomorrow, Tues. (Feb. 14), and will be available on iTunes shortly after
Christina Milian Signs to Young Money
Christina Milian is joining Lil Wayne’s Young Money crew.
The R&B singer (and “The Voice” social media correspondent) announced the news on Twitter on Sunday.
“The answer is….Yes. Let’s Get To Work! I Heart You Guys.. It’s Now or Never,” she wrote.
As Billboard previously reported, Lil Wayne introduced Milian at the Cash Money pre-Grammy party on Sunday, telling the crowd, “Y’all make some noise for Christina Milian… Young Money Christina Milian!”
The label, also home to Drake and Nicki Minaj, among others, is expected to release Milian’s much-delayed fourth album.
The new release has been in progress since 2008, and was formerly attached to labels including Interscope and Radio Killa Records, the home of Milian’s ex-husband, The-Dream.
One version of the album, then title “Elope,” was said to have been completed in 2009 under the helm of The-Dream and Tricky Stewart; where the project stands now remains to be seen. The former couple finalized their divorce in October 2011

show then segued into a video

trouble-making alter ego, Roman
Zolanski — and in need of an
exorcism.

Madonna & Nicki Minaj BowlOver Billboard’s Social 50Chart
Madonna **’s flurry of media
activity last week sparks her re-
entry at No. 8 on Billboard’s
Social 50 chart, her highest rank
ever on the year-old tally. Her
video for “Give Me All Your
Luvin’” premiered Feb. 3 on
YouTube, while she performed at
the Super Bowl halftime show on
Feb. 5. For the tracking week, she
earned a 479% increase in
YouTube fans and a 685% leap in
YouTube views.
The Social 50 chart’s rankings are
determined by activity monitored
on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook,
Twitter, MySpace and iLike, using
a formula that blends weekly
additions of friends/fans/
followers along with weekly artist
page views and weekly song
plays.
Madonna’s re-entry is even more
compelling because she doesn’t
have an official Twitter account –
the only act on the chart without
one.
The diva’s Super Bowl halftime
partner, Nicki Minaj ** (who is
also featured on her “Give Me All
Your Luvin’” single), jumps 10-3
on the Social tally this week. She
too is experiencing a Bowl-related
gain, but also still reeling from
her current hit with David Guetta,
“Turn Me On.” During the
tracking week, Minaj saw a 27%
jump in Facebook fans and a 10%
charge in Twitter followers.
Guetta also has a good week on
the Social tally, as he rises to a
new high of No. 4 (up four slots).
As for the rest of the top 10 this
week, Adele holds at No. 1, Katy
Perry is up a position to No. 2
and Justin Bieber falls back one
to No. 5. Shakira moves 2-6,
Rihanna shifts 5-7 and Michael
Jackson is steady at No. 9. Closing
out the top 10 is LMFAO, who
descends four to No. 10.

Ballers want to be rappers, and

her second studio album set for
this April, hip-hop diva Nicki
Minaj ** has announced a wave
of news, including her next single,
Grammy plans, and a
performance at the 2012 NBA
All-Star Game.
Minaj will hit the 54th Annual
Grammy Awards with a new song.
Nicki will give the Barbz a preview
of “Pink Friday: Roman
Reloaded” (April 3) when she
performs a never before heard
track, titled, “Roman Holiday.”
The song will go on-sale
immediately after the telecast.
Aside from her performance,
Minaj is up for four Gammys
including Best New Artist and
Best Rap Album.
The day after her big Grammy
night (Feb, 13), Ryan Seacrest will
premiere Minaj’s newest single,
“Starships.” Fans can download
the track on iTunes the same day.
Nicki Minaj will wrap up a busy
February with a performance at
the 2012 NBA All-Star Game in
Orlando on Feb. 26th. A press
release hinted Minaj will perform,
but did not reveal if for the
halftime show.
Nicki Minaj’s Personal ‘MarilynMonroe’ Leaks: Listen
Fans of Nicki Minaj **’s smash hit
“Super Bass” will soon have a
new pop-friendly ballad to sing in
the shower.
A new and unofficial track leaked
to the web this week, in which
the rapper appears to be
channeling Barbie rather than
her other male alter ego, Roman.
The song is rumored to be titled
“Marilyn Monroe” and features
Minaj’s sweeter, softer vocals
instead of the rapid-fire rhymes
we’re accustomed to hearing
from her.
“Just call me blessed. If you can’t
handle my worst, you ain’t
getting my best. Is this how
Marilyn Monroe felt? Must be
how Marilyn Monroe felt,” Minaj
croons against an upbeat piano
and synth beats.
The song lyrics draw on a famous
quote from Monroe, in which she
said: “I’m selfish, impatient and a
little insecure. I make mistakes, I
am out of control and at times
hard to handle. But if you can’t
handle me at my worst, then you
sure as hell don’t deserve me at
my best.”
The song is likely unfinished, but
this start certainly sounds
promising. Minaj has a knack for
straddling the line between
hardcore rap fans and
bubblegum pop lovers, with
“Monroe” very clearly catering to
the latter demo.
Minaj’s sophomore album “Pink
Friday: Roman Reloaded” was set
for a Valentine’s Day debut via
Young Money records, but was
recently pushed back to April 3.
Among the new songs to be
released on the album are
“Stupid Hoe” and “Roman in
Moscow,” which play in stark
contrast to the softer “Monroe.”

Nicki Minaj is getting super social on the Billboard Social 50 chart, as the hip-hop diva flies from No. 16 to No. 10 — her visit to the top 10 since the Dec. 24 tally when she ranked at No. 8. She saw a 17% gain in Twitter followers in the tracking week and an 19% rise in YouTube views.
The Social 50 chart’s rankings are determined by activity monitored on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and iLike, using a formula that blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.
Credit the buzzworthy move up the chart to a trio of watercooler-worthy singles that are making waves at the moment. First, her own “Stupid Hoe” has been making eyeballs do a double-take since its upload to YouTube on Jan. 20. So far, the hyperactive clip has collected 23 million views on the site. This week, the single rises from No. 81 to No. 59 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
Meanwhile, her collaboration with David Guetta on “Turn Me On” is a monster hit on top 40 radio and threatening the top slot on the Hot 100 chart. On the Pop Songs chart (known as Mainstream Top 40 on billboard.biz) it jumps from No. 14 to No. 10, while on the Hot 100 it is bulleted at No. 5 and should move higher next week. The song’s official video premiered on Jan. 31 and has racked over 4 million views.
Finally, Minaj is featured on Madonna’s new single “Give Me All Your Luvin’” (along with M.I.A.). Both the song and its music video debuted on Feb. 3. Minaj is slated to perform with Madonna during the halftime show of the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 5.
Also making big jumps on the chart are Katy Perry (12-3), LMFAO (21-6) and Michael Jackson (31-9). Perry had an 11% gain in Facebook fans last week and recently achieved her sixth No. 1 from the “Teenage Dream” album on the Pop Songs chart (known as Mainstream Top 40 on billboard.biz).
Madonna Releases “Give Me All Your Luvin’” Video
Like Minaj, LMFAO is scheduled to take the stage with Madonna on Super Bowl Sunday. Meanwhile, the duo’s latest single, “Sorry for Party Rocking,” debuts at No. 92 on the Hot 100 this week.
Michael Jackson was in the news last week thanks to his induction into the forecourt to the stars at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood (Jan. 26). His three children were on hand to imprint one his gloves, along with a pair of his shoes, into the cement in front of the famed movie house.
As for the rest of the chart’s top 10, Adele is steady at No. 1 while Shakira climbs 4-2 and Justin Bieber falls 2-4. Rihanna’s up 6-5, Pitbull slips 5-7 and David Guetta falls 7-8.
