Jumping onto the fast-moving technology train

The Commacopeia Cafe

Virtually every job post I see, whether for that rare bird of a full-time job or more typically for a contract job, requires an ever-growing constellation of tech skills that appear to my Boomer mid-life perceptions to reside in three or four people, rather than the single soul the employer is seeking.

In a job post I found just this morning, the employer requires 5+ years of these skills: content management systems, web analytics, CRM (customer relationship management), Web development basics in design and interaction, the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator), project management, social networking platforms, and of course, writing and editing for the Web.

That laundry list covers several functional areas, including design, content development, project management, marketing, sales, and data analysis. Temperamentally, the post suggested the candidate be a combination of a tech nerd, an extroverted “people” person, an introverted content developer, and a sensitive artist.
